Struy Guest House in Inverness
Struy Guest House
My goodness where do I begin with this atrocious excuse for a hostel? I was given the "chalet" (aka glorified garden shed, no kidding) which consisted of one room with a single bed, another room with "kitchen" items (kettle and microwave but no cutlery or crockery) and a separate toilet. I arrived in February on a cold night and was shocked to find that all the windows were left open and it was so cold inside that I could see my breath. I instantly put the electric heater on but after about 30 seconds it started to make a horrific smell so I decided to turn it off for fear of it catching fire or exploding in the night. The door had holes in that had been poorly filled in, the walls had stains, there were cobwebs on the walls, the bed was literally the most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept on (you could feel all the springs), all of the furniture looked like it had been found in a tip.
Oh and then there's the cold. I had to go to bed with my pijamas on with tights underneath, socks, scarf, hat and a coat on, and I was still too cold. What on earth kind of a place is this and how is it still able to be open for business???
You had to pay for towels and breakfast, there was no soap provided, I couldn't get wifi in my shed. Honestly I felt like I was staying in a shack in Africa (but with the temperature of the Arctic). Do not stay at Struy Guest House!
