In the late seventies we studied macrobiotics. This gives you a way of understanding the qualities of all things, including all foods, so you can better choose what you need at any time or place. Food is important because we take it in every day, several times a day. And so it affects our condition directly all the time. You can hear all kinds of information – “This is good for you”, “This is bad for you” – but usually these are all disjointed items without any common foundation.
Macrobiotics gives this foundation, so you can understand the qualities of different foods, and how they affect you as an individual. It inspired us to start a shop in 1982. That was in Shepherds Bush so we called it Bushwacker. Ten years later we moved to Hammersmith.
Our first concern is good food – grown in good soil, looked after organically, and then processed as little as possible.
For particular problems we have specific remedies – herbal, nutritional, homeopathic. Our aim is always to work with Nature instead of trying to fight it. As well as organic fresh fruit and vegetables, stock ranges from food supplements, natural toiletries and bio-degradable cleaning products, to books and magazines and everything else you would expect to find in a good wholefood shop.
