Hilton Self Catering in Cults, Aberdeen
Hilton Self Catering
Myself and were colleagues were working in Aberdeen recently and stayed in the Hilton Apartment in Cults. It's a very homely flat with plenty of space, a well equipped kitchen, nicely appointed bathrooms and good central heating (Important in January). The only downside was that the flat hadn't been very thoroughly cleaned before we arrived...there was dirt and dust on shelves and under the beds and we even found an old pair of boxer shorts (which were in a state I can't even bring myself to describe) in one of the wardrobes. We are all quite easy going and have stayed in all manner of places with work so we didn't make a fuss.
We all enjoyed staying there until the final day when the landlady Brenda came around to 'check' the flat before returning our deposit. We were then made to stand in the hall while Brenda went through a laminated 'check list' of criteria we had to meet before our deposit would be returned. She checked each and every bin and to make sure it had been emptied and even blanched when she discovered a penny had been left in one. We are all very tidy people and had left the apartment as we found it, but this wasn't good enough for Brenda who was clearly looking for faults. Even after we pointed out the dirty boxer shorts and showed her the filth under the bed, which must have been building up for months, she continued to insist we had not clean the flat to her satisfaction. By this time I was starting to get annoyed and suggested that she should not expect guests to clean the flat to a standard ready for the next tenants to arrive..this should be done by a cleaner. We did get our deposit back but did not part on good terms. It's a shame as this is a lovely place to stay.
