Matthew Carter Removals and Storage Ltd in Stanton Harcourt, Witney

We had the misfortune of instructing Matthew Carter Removals to move house and put our belongings in storage. With everything in place for moving day, we rang the company the day before to make sure everything was ok, and to confirm times, etc. At this point we were told they would not come until we paid IN FULL up front. This was never agreed or even mentioned in any communications prior to this. Apparently it is in their 'small print' on the back of their contract, but never pointed out. No other company operates this policy, so it is not expected. We managed to scrape together (during an already stressful and expensive move) half the money, agreeing with Matthew Carter to pay the remainder upon completion of delivery. They picked up our goods, took them off in the van and we left our house. That night, (due to deliver the following day), we were told they would not deliver until we paid the remainder, basically holding all our worldly belongings to ransom. We had to borrow from family to cover this cost, just to get our things delivered into the storage unit. Six months later, we finally completed on our new home, and started to empty the unit, only to find wardrobes broken, missing sofa feet, etc. Apparently they only accept liability for 7 days after delivery, even though the goods have been untouched in secure storage. A total joke, and not even that cheap either. Avoid at all costs.
