Trellis Restaurant in Rottingdean, Brighton
Trellis Restaurant
Called in here on our way back to London from Hastings via a coastal route. A very picturesque little place and very homely with vintage touches inside. We did not want lunch but opted for toasties as they advertised. I ordered a cheese and ham, my husband cheese and tuna. What a complete disappointment. We were the only two in the restaurant and it took 20 minutes to serve us. We could hear and see the two woman in the kitchen. Total incompetence. One made the alleged toastie, the other poked inside my toastie, said the cheese was not melted so she put it in the microwave. The result served to me was a half toasted torn piece of bread with some half melted cheese and ham inside. This was just bread toasted under a grill and then microwaved with the filling inside. Not a proper toastie. It was soggy on the bottom where the bread touched the plate in the microwave. And for that they charged £5.45. £5.45. They sure know how to rip you off. As we ate I constantly heard the ping of microwaves as they prepared lunch for hopefully expected customers. How these people could ever produce a proper lunch or dinner is beyond me! Just don't go there!
