EXCEL AUTOMOTIVES in Chesterfield

I have been using Excel Motors for servicing on three cars - one a vintage Mercedes. I have had nothing but the best service on all three - I was kept informed of progress and at no time did I feel that they were taking advantage on my lack of mechanical knowledge. On the vintage car they were extremely efficient in sourcing a difficult to obtain component and they completed the work on time and for a fair price. I definitely would recommend them for all ages of cars. Have had simple servicing through to a more difficult engine servicing and was completely satisfied.

Avoid using them !!! Read on.

After using excel previously for small issues i sent both my work vans, both transits needing major engine work.
they managed to fit a recon engine into one van which only managed 580 miles before the engine ceased causing £4000 worth of damage. the original bill was £5400. They fitted old injectors onto recon engine. I finally got paid out by their insurance after a long drawn out tug o war but ended up being out of pocket financially.

the 2nd van cost me £740 for them to diagnose and tell me they cant fix it. yet the garage that has it now says 4 days and £1200 to be back on the road.

I have used excel repeatedly for over a year. I've never had any problems with them, admittedly they were all minor mechanical jobs in the past.
once a major problem occurs their professionalism chance. I was left to sort this on my own. they were reluctant to contact their insurance, never supplied any printed reports for my viewing, never offered to resolve the issue without further cost to myself.

i suppose they're OK if you want a bulb changing or wiper blades but when it comes to mechanical engine repairs i would avoid them at all costs.

I've had 2 vans recovered from a garage because they failed to repair either engine. Says it all really.
