Description:
“I believe that the creative process should be enjoyable” he states, forcefully rejecting the idea that, as an artist, you’re supposed to ‘develop a style’, and stick to it, ad nauseam. “I paint primarily for myself, having fun and enjoying the process of painting. I’m still playing and experimenting like a child. If other people like my work and want to buy it, so be it – that’s a bonus.”
Inspiration for this painter’s work comes from many directions. “An artist is constantly on the lookout for ideas – it could be an idea or concept from a film, walking along the street, seeing a stained-glass window or from one of my sketchbooks.” He doesn’t like repeating, believing that an original should be an original, a ‘one-off’, contrary to the practice where some artists will repeat their work, if they know it sells.
Milton has taken part in The Artists At Home Exhibition for the last ten years, which this year celebrates their 50th Anniversary. He has exhibited at many London venues, and will in March of this year, be showing a piece at the Mall Galleries as part of the 200th Anniversary of The Royal Society of British Artists (RBA). He likes finding alternative ways to sell his art, preferring to deal directly with the public, getting the feedback which is missing when selling through galleries. In the last few years Hammersmith BID has also been great at providing support, allowing artists to exhibit and sell their work in pop-up shops and markets.
