The grounds of the building are very untidy, walls have or are falling down, paving slabs uneven and are a risk for people to trip over, from the path through into the side gate into Delapre Abbey grounds, is covered in gravel and it would be very difficult if not impossible to push a wheelchair through this area. The car park was full of rubbish and it appears they are burning garden refuse on a regular basis according to a nearby resident.
Outside the gate and down towards the lake Travelers were camped this is a regular site for them and others to stay according to the same resident, dogs were running around and it was not safe to continue walking down there.
The main problem seems to be a lack of employees and volunteers and the site manager only works up to Lunchtime, Mencap should give the Manager more hours so they can arrange donations of materials from local companies, and contact the County Council to arrange a barrier to stop people camping down near their building.
