E C Cole has been servicing my aged father's boiler for several years now but were extremely unresponsive when he needed their services recently. Some days ago there was a gas leak in the boiler and Southern Gas emergency services were called out immediately. The leak was identified and the boiler condemned as not complying to gas safe standards. It took Cole 4 days to send their own engineer and confirm that the boiler they had serviced for 17 years did not meet current standards. We then asked them for a quotation for a new installation. It took another 4 days for their assessor to visit. And 5 days later we are still waiting for the quotation in writing. We can understand if they are busy, but not once did they admit it may take some time or suggest an alternative supplier to us. The string of excuses for delay included "the assessor is in Midhurst and mobile reception is not good" to "the e mail has been acting up lately". Finally the manager "promised" a quote by last Wednesday and that hasn't arrived yet. I haven't established all the facts yet so I will not go into further detail on my concerns about why the boiler was not condemned by their engineer before now when it seems that it has not complied to gas safe standards for some time.
