Abbey Roofing in Little Hulton, Manchester
Abbey Roofing
Roofer was very friendly at the beginning, but forced to pay lots of money upfront. The scaffolding was already up, hence, I was forced to pay the amount, which was more than 2/3 of the proper price. Roofer bumped up the amount on the first day, after half of the coverings of the roof was taken off. I was forced to agree, but still thought it was fine as long as the work is going to be done great. The roofer also agreed to paint the soil stack, insulate the loft, as well as removing the abandoned galvanised tank in the loft. Then later I realised, this was counted as a "rip off", which I also had to provide all the materials (If a tradesman agree on a task, it is usually agreed in the quoted price, I was shocked, but I still bought the material as extra), and the tank was not even removed too. Later, the roofer claimed that he could booked a big skip for half the price (8 yards, for £100). Tripled confirm this is the big skip with him, but ended up, it was only a 4 yards. 4 yards skip is actually £100 everywhere anyway. The gutters in the house was not fitted at an angle. Four sides of my gutter joining with the neighbours are all leaking. Called him back three times and ended up with massive furious text claiming that he would take off the roof if i don't pay the remaining. Advised by the building control officer that I should not pay him as it is proper shady work. The slates were not lay correctly as well, there was cracked, sparse spaces between slates, which might results in falling off on the first snow / leak in heavy rain. However, before the first rain nor snow, slates were already slipping off. Roofer refused to come back to fix anything and constant claiming that he would come to take off the whole roof because that makes him feel better. It was a lie about the 10 years warranty, as he refused to even do it properly at the first go! My solicitor and police had to step in. In the end, I just gave in and paid most of the amount as I was getting too many threatening texts. I had to appoint a different company to do the gutter and check all the slates after that, which costed me additional 1000 pound, plus the rubbish was not removed, which cost me another 200 pound on skip.
Do not use this roofer unless you would like to have a slipping slates roof, not slanting right angle's gutter, cracked slates, extra bumping up prices
