Lawson Carpentry & Joinery
We had new wardrobe doors fitted by Trevor Lawson, and it has been an unpleasant experience.
When bringing the materials to our house he told us he tore a ligament and said it would take 6 to 8 weeks before he could return to work. He suggested we got another carpenter but did not offer to pay for this. It is obviously not nice to tear a ligament, but I do have to say that his manual handling technique left a great deal to be desired. We said we would wait for him to recover and asked him to prioritize our work on return.
After more than 6 weeks we rang to see how he was getting on and he said he would not complete our work and his business was closing down. He hung up on us.
A couple of other carpenters came to look and were very critical of the materials he used and refused to work with them. This leads us to be concerned that his work may not last for a decent amount of time.
Eventually after contacting trading standards and asking for a full refund due to breach of contract, he offered to complete the job and clearly had not dissolved his business!!!!
Lawson was reluctant to give important information about the formaldehyde levels of the mdf- which were in fact fine - but he just doesn't seem to think the customer should ask such questions. I felt he was extremely sexist and thought women should not ask such things.
He left the job without the carpet being put back properly which will now be another bill. Furthermore he has not yet disposed of the old wardrobe doors which he said he might not do for up to two weeks. These are left on our drive.
Lawson can be very moody and unpleasant to have in the house. If he does not want to answer your question on the phone he will hang up.
