Smiths Children is an independent Montessori School, located a short distance from Cambridge city centre. We provide daycare for children from 3 months to 6 years of age. The environment is prepared for children to learn independently supported by Montessori Directresses (guides).
Fresh Nutritious Food prepared three times daily with healthy snacks & drinks included. Smiths Children Montessori School, provides Montessori Education in line with the 'Early Years Foundation Stage' requirements. The school differs from a nursery because we have a teaching method and curriculum which follows the teachings and philosophy of Dr Maria Montessori. We also use specially designed learning materials which are presented to children aged 3-6 by a qualified Montessori Directress (Guide). It is in part through the presentation of these learning materials that the teaching method is applied.
Montessori Schools number over 20,000 worldwide in many different countries. The first of which opened in 1907. In a true Montessori School children learn independently and choose there learning within a prepared environment. Children choose the materials they wish to use and the Directress both guides and presents to them, observing and recording what she sees. A nursery in direct contrast does not have a teaching method or curriculum to follow. But instead nursery practitioners must meet the requirements of the 'Early Years Foundation Stage' by using there own initiative to create activities that attempt to be both challenging and fun but also demonstrate a learning outcome. A level 3 qualification is the accepted qualification that practitioners must hold to work effectively in a childcare setting.
