BP Wholesale Fish Merchants in Ouston, Chester le Street
BP Wholesale Fish Merchants
I have just noticed there's a gap in the reviews between 2016 to 2018. It would be interesting to know what happened during that time and whether trading standards, local authority etc did actually investigate the complaints in 2014, 2015 and 2016 - and very annoyed that it's still happening in 2018. My experience and review was April 2016 and pleased to see that Andrew has also gone the route that I did. I hope he receives an acknowledgement from one of the authorities as I didn't which was disappointing. I still feel annoyed with myself not having the courage to refuse all the wet packs of fish dumped on me and such as expense.
Just visited an elderly lady I know and was furious to discover some scheming door-to-door salesman had managed to persuade her to part with £300 cash for a load of fish that any fool could see would be too much for one elderly person to get through. Daylight robbery. This company should be named and shamed before anyone else gets duped.
My wife was "High pressure sold at the door"; £100 worth of fish, she paid by Credit Card and I have discovered that BP Wholesale made the Credit Card transaction, a "Continuous payment authority"; which presumably means that they can get money whenever they want it . Needless to say I have cancelled it!
I have just received delivery, from a cold call at the door. Paid £24 for what looked like 1 x smoked haddock, 1 x smoked salmon and 1 x fresh sea bass. I asked if the fish was fresh to freeze and was it skinned and boned, I was assured on both questions. When I looked at the fish, after they men had gone, I noticed that the top pack had a label but the others didn't, I am sure that this is illegal! Wanting to freeze the fish I opened the packs to discover, scrap, pieces under the nice looking top fillets, the salmon had a very thick skin and was full of bones, I have taken photos as evidence. I like to support local small businesses which is why I bought from these men...fingers have been burnt and lesson learnt...back to the high street fishmonger for me. Disgusted and, having read previous reviews, sure that if I complain directly to the company, I won't get a positive response. Very disappointed!
My wife on answering the door in Edinburgh soon found herself buying £180.00 of fish as a minimum order, the fish was pre-packed and would expire in 48 hours on use by date. This was a door to door high pressure salesman nightmare and best avoided, the company should pay regard that some people are vulnerable. Why would a house wife buy so much fish? She did ask for three or four fish and not fifty, after a hot pursuit my associates and I managed to find them and get a refund in another street.
This company pushed £140.00 of fish towards an 85 year old pensioner suffering mild form of Alzheimers, with a 2 day sell by, we have no way of knowing if the fish was fresh when packed as there were no guarentee's with the sale so unable to risk eating...... I am currently involved with Trading Standards, Food fraud Team and Food standards agency to get my dad's money back...
