Denvers Cottage Bakery in Stanley Common, Ilkeston
Denvers Cottage Bakery
15-4-16. Stopped at Denvers cottage bakery, Stanley Common. Bought a steak and ale pie, Cornish pasty and a sausage roll. Looking at the pies etc on display quite a lot of them looked burnt. One could say over cooked but I`ll use the burnt word. The female counter person ,who was trying her best to look interested in the process of life ie, breathing and some movement asked if we wanted them warming up, which we did. I looked at the counter lady and wonder if she was really happy in her work, If she was she did her best to conceal her excitement over communicating and interacting with customers. In the car we started to eat food but stopped because it was only just warm and we were on our way by then, only one bite taken. We got home and warmed the food correctly but things went further down hill from there on.
The steak and ale pie had almost a table spoon of what loosely resembled meat in it the rest was made up of onions to fill the pie out I suppose. A table spoon of meat !!. The pie was a similar shape to the Cornish pasty shape pie so there was a lot of pastry, a lot of onions and very little meat / steak . This must be one of the worst pies I`ve ever had plus the pie wasn't warmed correctly and miserable service. Most of the other pies, slices etc looked burnt and unappealing so don't think I`ll go back.
I phoned to say how disappointed I was with their pie to which the woman simply replied, OK I`ll tell him and that was that ! Not, Oh, Im sorry sir, would you like a replacement one or any other comment showing concern. This was a poor show from Denvers bakery and definitely wont be going back there.
